The story

Before the saint, a love story.

As their father nears death, Thérèse and her sisters relive the romance of Louis and Zélie Martin, the first married couple canonized together, and the love that made a family of saints.

The history

Louis Martin, a watchmaker, and Zélie Guérin, a lacemaker, married in Alençon, France, in 1858. All five of their surviving daughters became nuns. The youngest, Thérèse, became one of the most beloved saints of the modern Church, and in 2015 Pope Francis canonized Louis and Zélie together.
